Who Can Our Programs Help?

Students with ADHD

We know that students who struggle with attention challenges can find it difficult to be successful in school and professional environments. At Axiom Learning, we understand that not all attention challenges are the same. Our programs are designed to address the causes that are underlying any symptoms you may be seeing in your child’s life. For kids who have trouble staying focused or who struggle with ADHD or ADD, it’s often not a cognitive capacity issue but, instead, a processing issue. Our program will help your child realize many important benefits, including:

  • Enhance sustained attention and focus
  • Aid better performance in school
  • Support sensory integration
  • Help improve social skills
  • Accelerate cognitive processing abilities
Students with Dyslexia

Dyslexia is where the “phonological loop” breaks. When we read, we take a visual cue (the letters on a page) and “speak” them into our brain through input channels normally used for AUDITORY processing (that’s why you often move your lips when you are reading). Dyslexia as well as difficulties in reading, writing and expressive language occur when one or more parts of that “loop” aren’t synchronized. LEAP 3.0 addresses this through targeted exercises which help the brain, eyes and auditory processing channels coordinate information accurately and efficiently. LEAP 3.0 students should expect to see dramatic improvements in:

  • Reading fluency and comprehension
  • Working memory
  • Enhanced attention and focus – particularly reading and writing
  • Improved social skills
  • Strengthened visual tracking and binocularity – improving decoding and listening
  • Significantly improved writing skills and expressive language
  • Writing skills
Students with Executive Functioning Challenges

At Axiom Learning, we understand how frustrating it can be to have an Executive Functioning challenge get in the way of your capacity to express your full capabilities and have seen how someone who starts off struggling can thrive when given targeted support and coaching. No two individuals have identical Executive Functioning challenges so our programs begin with an assessment in order to pinpoint your child’s specific strengths, learning style and areas of challenge. Using your child’s own insights as a starting point, our team of Harvard, Stanford, Dartmouth and Princeton graduates will develop systems to help your child with:

  • Time management
  • Organization
  • Planning
  • Response inhibition
  • Working memory
  • Emotional control
  • Sustained attention
  • Flexibility
  • Meta-cognition
Students with Autism

Parents of kids with autism know the challenges their kids navigate: communication challenges, difficulty relating to people, things and events, as well as repetitive body movements/behaviors, inflexibility and emotional regulation challenges. LEAP 3.0 addresses the underlying drivers of many of these challenges through carefully curated exercises targeting sensory-motor integration and the processing and integration of auditory and visual data. Autistic students who go through LEAP 3.0 program most often see the following benefits:

  • Strengthened sensory-motor integration, such as decreased sensitivity to loud noises and bright lights
  • Increased situational awareness and ability to respond flexibly to novel situations
  • Strengthened emotional regulation and ability to co-regulate with others
  • Improved social skills and awareness of, and ability to respond to, non-verbal cues
  • Accelerated cognitive and information processing skills
Students with High Anxiety

We all experience anxiety to some degree but high anxiety can be defined as being present when the anxiety is out of proportion to the situation, age inappropriate, or hinders ability to function normally. Whether because of challenges with integrating sensory inputs (light, sound and social interactions) or difficulty with managing uncertainty, high anxiety can compromise concentration and our ability to persist while fueling a fixed (defeatist) mindset. LEAP 3.0 helps students struggling with anxiety by helping them better integrate sensory inputs and with an emphasis on building a growth mindset. After LEAP 3.0, students should expect:

  • Strengthened emotional regulation
  • Enhanced ability to manage time and break down tasks
  • Developed growth mindset and persistence in tasks
  • Reduced stress and greater ability to feel joy and optimism

How LEAP 3.0 Works

At Axiom LearningTM, we know that most learning challenges, the root cause is a gap in your child’s physical, cognitive processing, or executive functioning systems. When students struggle academically, existing interventions tend to focus on these same subjects at the “tree-top level” of learning. The truth is that academic challenges are often just symptoms of an underlying inefficiency. Instead, LEAP 3.0 goes underneath the symptoms to address inefficiencies in physical and cognitive processing systems which drive academic success, including sensory-motor integration, cognitive processing skills and Executive Functioning. Rather than addressing the symptoms at the top of the “learning tree,” LEAP 3.0 students find transformative impact by focusing on the skills at the roots and trunk of the learning tree.

How Do These Programs Work?

Sensory-Motor Integration

LEAP 3.0’s first level includes a battery of sequential, coordinated exercises which synthesize sensory-motor processing and mindfulness in a way that dramatically enhances a student’s ability to self-regulate and helps students who otherwise struggle in mainstream classrooms. Skills targeted include rhythmicity, balance, bodily spatial awareness, visual tracking, and auditory skill development. LEAP 3.0 also strengthens the visual and auditory pathways to process information more efficiently, accurately and automatically − allowing students to spend less energy on merely processing information and more energy on more deeply understanding and applying that information to academic or social contexts.

After LEAP 3.0, students will see significant improvements in:

  • Emotional Regulation
  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety
  • Auditory Processing
  • Visual Processing
  • Balance
  • Attention & Focus
Cognitive Processing Skills

LEAP 3.0’s level 2 incorporates sequential, coordinated, and integrated activities that allow students to accurately gather information from their classrooms and environment. Specifically, LEAP 3.0 trains visual and auditory pathways to process information more consistently, efficiently, accurately, and automatically through structured activities for developing cognitive faculties such as sustained attention, processing speed, working memory, visual manipulation, logic and reasoning, and auditory discrimination. For many students, increasing cognitive efficiency bolsters their expressive and creative productivity as they are able to interpret visual and auditory information with significantly more certainty and ease, leaving additional energy for other tasks and to devote to higher order critical thinking.

After LEAP 3.0, students will see significant improvements in:

  • Dramatically Improved Productivity
  • Working Memory
  • Processing Speed
  • Language Processing – including Reading and Writing Skills
  • Logic & Reasoning
Executive Functioning

LEAP 3.0’s Level 3 is Axiom Learning’s cutting-edge curriculum in Executive Functioning. The dynamic and fast-paced demands that society places on its members are significant and, for many, overwhelming. Essential to increasing cognitive capacity necessary to manage these increasing demands is curating strategies that can optimize our storage, retrieval, and use of memories and knowledge. Through gamified activities, LEAP targets the storage, organization, retrieval and expression of memories and knowledge. These Executive Functioning strategies enable students to reflexively organize, prioritize, and plan to make strategic decisions for school and beyond. LEAP 3.0 also supports the development of a Growth Mindset and trains students to devise effective systems of goal setting, time management, prioritization and organization in support of their daily life activities, both in school and beyond.

With LEAP 3.0, students will see significant improvements in:

  • Attention & Focus
  • Organization and Planning
  • Time Management and Reduced or Eliminated Procrastination
  • Prioritization and Organization of Information and Tasks
  • Improved Productivity and Grades
  • Reduced Anxiety
Academic and Collaborative Transference Activities

Research shows that most cognitive training programs yield improvements within the prescribed activities and on subsequent assessments without lasting and/or generalized impact. Deliberate practice within domains relevant to real life applications for students is essential to ensure transference of enhanced sensory-motor, cognitive processing, and executive functioning skills to students’ responses to everyday demands. By synthesizing academic activities with quantifiable metrics and critical thinking and collaborative activities with qualitative rubrics, our programs offer students an opportunity to witness their own transformation and empowers them to tackle similar assignments and challenges outside of the context of this program with greatly enhanced effectiveness and zeal.

LEAP 3.0 Produces Transformative Results

When a student’s underlying challenges are addressed, this leads to increased performance in academic settings. In fact, over 40% of LEAP 3.0 students who start with a diagnosis no longer qualify for one by the end of the program. On average, students who participate in LEAP 3.0 for a minimum of 50 hours see:

  • Errors in mental math exercises decrease by 69%
  • Their ability to correctly spell new words rise 14%
  • Mistakes in following directions decrease by 27%

Overall, parents reported noticing that their student was:

  • Better able to keep up in class and work for longer periods of time
  • More focused but also spending less time completing homework
  • Demonstrating increased eye contact and awareness of social cues
  • Less stressed and anxious about new situations
  • More interested in math or reading than before
  • Making more friends with other kids or bonding with teachers
  • Showing increased independence and motivation
  • And many other life-long benefits of LEAP!

On average, students who participate in LEAP 3.0 for a minimum of 50 hours (out of 250 hours of available exercises) improved by an average of over 4.9 years in cognitive growth!
